Lions Golf Day Helps Local Firies

The Lions Golf Day held recently (12/11) at the Torquay Golf Club raised $3000 for the Torquay CFA Unit.

Torquay Lions Club President Trevor Secombe said the golf day was a wonderful success thanks to local traders and a generous field of golfers.

“All had a great day on the course despite the warm conditions and players showed their appreciation by generously supporting the fund-raising in the clubhouse afterwards,” he said.

“Most importantly, Torquay’s CFA Unit will gain the benefit of the Lions Golf Day and now has another $3000 towards their much-needed new fire truck.

“Our local fire brigade looks like having another heavy fire season ahead of it and the Torquay community greatly appreciates the work they do in protecting our region,” Mr Secombe said.

“Torquay Lions believe that helping local organisations such as the Torquay CFA Unit benefits the whole community and we know that the local brigade deserves to have the best and most modern equipment to strengthen its fire-fighting capability.

“We are pleased to be able to help the Torquay CFA Unit with funding for its new vehicle.”

Mr Secombe said the generosity of the Torquay business people provided a wide variety of prizes for the day ensuring a successful fundraising event for Lions Club of Torquay.
